FAQs and Policies
What is your policy regarding returns and/or exchanges?
Due to the nature of our products, no returns, refunds or exchanges are accepted if the item has been washed, or is a custom made item. Please contact me directly if there are any problems with your order. I recommend that you measure yourself and/or your child carefully before ordering. Feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding sizing. If there is a cosmetic flaw or malfunction of the materials and you have owned the item for under 30 days, please contact me immediately to arrange for the product to be shipped back for repair. In general, though my carriers are designed to withstand daily heavy use, please understand that I cannot account for improper washing technique and/or misuse of the item once it has left my shop.
In the case of a requested cancellation of a custom order, please note that once the order is received by myself, I will start working on your order and will require full payment before the item is shipped. If the order is paid in full in advance and you later request a cancellation of the order while it is in progress, there will be no refund issued. Your custom order will be sent as promised. No exchanges or store credit allowed. This is due to the fact that not all custom orders can be resold in my shop for its retail value (particularly if there is custom embroidery, imported fabric, etc.).
As always, please contact me for resolution prior to leaving a review. There are sometimes extenuating circumstances that may qualify you for an exemption of some of these policies. Please feel free to email me any time with questions or concerns: firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks again for your business!
How long will it take to receive my order?
All in-stock orders usually ship within 48 hours of ordering. Custom orders may take 2-4 weeks to complete, depending on the item. What fabric are your wraps and slings made of, and are they compliant?
New Earth Baby wraps and ring slings are made of either 1) cotton osnaburg, or 2) 100% linen. Both of these options are off-the-bolt fabrics that are available locally as well as online.
Osnaburg fabric is a 100% cotton middle-weight fabric. It is a thin, lightweight fabric that has a “natural” color and a textured grain. It is a great option for babywearers who are on a strict budget and need an inexpensive wrap or ring sling that is also safe and weightbearing. It also takes dye well, which means that it is easy to customize.
New Earth Baby uses the Roc-Lon brand of osnaburg exclusively. My suppliers are compliant with federal laws and I am grateful that they offer the fabric at a very reasonable price, so that I can provide my customers with a safe, affordable option for babywearing. I truly love being able to make parents happy by giving them a fully custom wrap for a much lower cost than a loom or hand woven wrap.
Osnaburg is a utility fabric, and in order to prepare it for use, I scour the fabric in hot water, washing soap and degreaser, which releases factory oils and residual dirt. I then dye and/or paint the fabric as requested, rinsing it several times to release any excess dye. During this process, the fabric can become more stiff than usual. Keep in mind, too, that your fabric may have felt differently at the craft store because of the oils that were used during processing, which is released during the scouring process. To soften the fabric, you will need to “break it in”. This requires using the wrap as much as possible, braiding it, sitting on it, or even using it as a hammock for small children! All of these methods will soften the fibers and loosen up the wrap.
Some comments about osnaburg from multiple suppliers:
Dharma Trading Co:
Midweight fabric with a linen look. Natural colored and has tan flecks throughout. Has a silk noil look and has a soft hand after washing.
Made of pure cotton, this fabric is easy to work with and maintain.
Osnaburg is a durable, strong, lightweight (4.5 oz/sq.yd.), coarsely woven cotton fabric used for constructing draperies, upholstery, apparel, and more. This vintage style fabric is also great for re-enactment costumes and is suitable for craft projects. Osnaburg can be dyed, painted, or printed.
My linen fabric is from an online supplier, and it is a medium weight (5.3oz) 100% linen fabric, bleached white. It is somewhat sheer, compared to osnaburg, but it is weightbearing and safe for wrapping. However, some babywearers comment that linen is difficult to "break in", and that is is more "grippy" than softer cotton fabrics, such as osnaburg or jacquard tablecloths, loom woven wraps and handwovens. It is thin and prone to permacreasing, so keep it hanging up if at all possible, or nicely folded (not braided) when being stored.
Can I get the exact same custom item as one previously sold on your website?
New Earth Baby is currently a one-woman show. I am a human and an artist, and I work with materials that are not always consistent. This is mostly applicable in the case of custom dyed fabrics; I may not be able to match the colors exactly (especially if going by colors displayed on a computer screen), and there will be small variances in results. With all dye techniques, there is the potential for "freckling", where the dye colors splits and results in tiny dots of other colors speckled on the fabric. I try my hardest to prevent this from happening, and I can often fix the item if this does happen, but please be aware that dyeing is not always 100% predictable. With carrier accessories, there may be slight differences in stitching, snap color, or placement of fabric (i.e., being centered differently, depending on the print of the fabric being used). However, I do my best to ensure that each design is as consistent as possible, and I will always send a photo of the completed item prior to shipping it out, to ensure that the order is satisfactory. If you would like adjustments or corrections to be made, please indicate these wishes before the item leaves my shop.
Are you CPSIA compliant?
Yes! I use CPSIA-compliant materials and properly safety tested sling rings. I use permanent, color-fast and dyes and fabric paints, and all of my items are safe for babies and toddlers. Please keep in mind that for existing carriers sent to me for modification, dyeing, painting or converting will void the original manufacturer's warranty. If you have registered your purchase you will continue to receive recall information and updates.
